Victory for ‘American Horror Story’? Emmys about-face on Miniseries changes
For those of you who were okay with the Emmy Awards being ridiculously long, we have some good news for you: they are going to stay that way courtesy of a just-announced turnaround when it comes to the Miniseries / TV Movie category.
Last year, it was revealed that the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences were planning to eliminate the Outstanding Supporting Actor / Actress field with this category of the show, citing a lack of strong candidates year after year along with a desire to create more space in the annual telecast. However, they now have decided instead to keep the category around, and strangely, you may literally have to thank God for it.
Or, more specifically, thank “The Bible.” In between this series and last year’s “Hatfields & McCoys,” History has brought commercial success to miniseries in a way in which they have not for some time, and this makes the category a little more high-profile. Of course, this also comes as a huge benefit to “American Horror Story,” who thanks to some loopholes is able to submit itself within this category since it is telling a different story every season without any references to the year before it.
This category also tends to give many British series a fighting chance. “Downton Abbey” was successful here in its first season before jumping over to the main series category, and other shows such as “Sherlock” and “Luther” have been frequently nominated here over the course of the past several years.
What do you think about this change, and are you happy that Supporting Actors and Actresses will continue to have their due in this category? If you want to read some more scoop on the upcoming “Coven” season of “American Horror Story,” you can do so over at the link here.
