NBC confirms: ‘Friends’ reunion not happening anytime soon
Sorry, social media: you’re not going to be getting your long-awaited reunion of “Friends” anytime soon.
The rumors about the legendary sitcom, which of course made its stars millions and launched Jennifer Aniston in particular into superstardom, having a reunion show of sorts actually started last fall; however, the rumors escalated recently when a Latin American news outlet ran an item claiming that NBC was actually going to commit a full-season order to another season of the show, just to give us some insight on where Chandler, Monica, and the rest of the characters were so many years down the road. (Hey, if “Arrested Development” can do it.)
Typically, most of these rumors are dismissed just as being the sort of gossip that they are; but this time around, NBC has officially denied to multiple sources that this is happening in any way, shape or form. While we understand the demand given the original show’s popularity, aren’t some things better left as they are?
It also seems impossible to really round up all of the original cast again. Courteney Cox has “Cougar Town” now to worry about, Lisa Kudrow “Web Therapy,” Matt LeBlanc “Episodes,” and Matthew Perry’s “Go On” may also be renewed by NBC for a second season. If you add to this David Schwimmer’s projects across the pond and Aniston’s movie career, that is a ton of schedules to work out.
Granted, we will say this: if the cast ever had an interest in being there for each other one more time, NBC would probably jump all over it like nobody’s business. This show was a ratings monster back when it was on the air, and even in this age of DVR a reunion of any sort would probably draw tens of millions of viewers.
Do you think that “Friends” is really better off in the past at this point? If you want to read up on another network show that may be revived, you can do so over here.
