Saturday Night Live: What did Kelsea Ballerini perform? ‘Blindsided’
When we start to wonder what someone is going to perform on a given episode of the late-night show, we always look first to some of their recent work. Kelsea recently released a new EP titled Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, and it was easy to assume that her performance tonight would come from that. So did this turn out to actually be the case?
As it turns out, it was! Kelsea decided to perform “Blindsided,” her narrative-focused track from the aforementioned EP. She also made the most of the stage that she had. We know that Studio 8H isn’t well-known for having a lot of space for performers, but she managed to make the most of having the band up there with her — especially come guitar solo time. There’s no denying that the song was catchy, and we do think it’s a good pairing with host Travis Kelce.
Ultimately, the real goal for any musical guest on SNL is that they are able to find some new fans, and we’ll have to wait and see if that works out for Kelsea. So far, we’d say that Brandi Carlile is the pinnacle when it comes to achieving this so far this season — and ironically, she performed a song in “The Story” that has been out there for years.
As for the second song…
This was more of a traditional ballad in “Penthouse,” but that strong narrative quality was still very much there. This was another recent song from her, and we do think she nailed the emotional connection here with the audience. We’re not familiar with the song, but we’d certainly want to listen to it again.
