‘Buckwild’ producer, stars Cara Parrish, Shae Bradley talk sudden cancellation
Well, it appears now that “Buckwild” is not going to go quietly into the night following the news that the reality series was canceled by MTV. The network took over a full week following the passing of Shain Gandee to make a decision, and they explained why they felt that this was the best move for them to make in a statement Wednesday morning:
“After careful consideration, MTV will not be moving forward with season two of ‘BUCKWILD’ in West Virginia.
“We love the cast and the show and this was not an easy decision, but given Shain’s tragic passing and essential presence on the show, we felt it was not appropriate to continue without him.Instead, we are working on a meaningful way to pay tribute to his memory on our air and privately.”
This statement could on some level make some sense; as we explained, this was a show designed initially to be rather silly and comedic, and it’s hard to do that when some sort of real-life tragedy ends up striking. However, there was potential for “Buckwild” to be more than that, and this was also a show that the cast wanted to continue on in Shain’s honor, as evidenced in some tweets from a part of the show’s cast members.
Shae Bradley: “The whole cast wants to continue filming and raise ten kinds of hell in Shains honor. Give you all the best second season ever. Or a movie.”
Cara Parrish: “For now @mtv has decided to stop filming Buckwild but we are looking into other show options in order to keep doing what Shain would want.”
The most biting remarks of all are coming from producer J.W. Williams, who blasted the network to The Hollywood Reporter in saying that the network is willing to allow real life to get in the way of this show, while they often exploit others in some of their other programs:
“This is the network that has shows about teen pregnancy. They’ll stick by a show that allows you to abandon a child, but a kid dies by accident doing what he does for a living [mudding] and they cancel the show? There’s something that smells of sh*t here on every level.”

Buckwild should not get taken off of the air I think Shain would want it to continue, and plus shows could be dedicated to him. Sure it won’t be the same without Shain but hey let them keep on muddin’, having fun and hookin’ up it will still get viewers I promise. I love all you guys. R.I.P Shain a.k.a Gandee Candy
