‘The Glee Project’ reportedly will not return for season 3
It’s not often that you see a spin-off show in some ways progress beyond the property in which it is based on, but in some ways we surprisingly felt as though “The Glee Project” was actually better than the flagship series in “Glee,” at least over the past two years. It gave you a real sense of what it was like to go through audition processes, at least in the sense that decisions are sometimes arbitrary, and working hard and having a good attitude matter almost as much as your overall level of talent. It is also rare that you see a series genuinely give you a winner who stays in the limelight for a while. After all, Blake Jenner has progressed into a bonafide star of “Glee” this year as Ryder Lynn.
Sadly, TVLine is reporting today that “The Glee Project” is tragically no more after two seasons on the air. There are a number of reasons as to why the show is now gone from the network, but the primary one is simply that the Fox show has not been renewed yet for a fifth season. The Oxygen competition is dependent on it sticking around, and it needed time in order to produce a show for it to air this summer.
If you follow television production schedules, then you were probably aware already that the writing was on the wall here. “The Glee Project” was really never that big of a hit show for Oxygen, though at the same time we never quite understood why it aired on this network to begin with. It really wasn’t the right target audience, and thus the great show felt like it was consistently under-achieving.

Update: A spokesperson for Oxygen reached out to us by saying that the TVLine story is “speculation,” and that the show has not been canceled. Hopefully, this means that it can return at a later date.
