2013 ACM Awards: Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan roast ‘Duck Dynasty,’ Lady Antebellum
Just like many other awards shows out there, one of the real joys in seeing the start of the Academy of Country Music Awards is finding out just how much fun the hosts are going to have at the expense of people in the nominees. Blake Shelton has long been one of the biggest repeat offenders of roasting some of his fellow country stars, and he was able to do so this year with an effective wingman in Luke Bryan.
Over the course of just the first few minutes of the broadcast, we saw Blake make fun of Luke’s tight jeans, Luke made fun of a certain part of Blake’s anatomy, and the two also poked fun at each other for a variety of different topics (including comparing the current state of their careers to the TV show “Nashville”).
Perhaps the biggest surprise here, though, was that the two really didn’t spent that much time at all making fun of other people. Rather, they largely used people in the audience to make fun of each other. (Take, for example, Kelly Clarkson getting set to marry Blake’s manager). The only exceptions were how they claimed that Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott got pregnant listening to her hit “Need You Now,” and they compared the guys from Duck Dynasty to singer Zac Brown of the Zac Brown Band. The duo’s comedy routine did not even start until after a brief performance, and it ended quickly after they introduced Kenny Chesney for a performance.
