‘The Vampire Diaries’: Ian Somerhalder – Nina Dobrev visit leads to happy ending
There are episodes of your favorite TV show that can surely bring a smile to your face, but even few of these can compare with the story that we have to share today.
Remember Kayla Baker, the Toronto teenager in need of a lung transplant who was visited recently by Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev? One week after the two “Vampire Diaries” stars helped to encourage her and tell her story to the world, reports are coming in now that Baker has finally received an organ that she needed in order to survive, after literally years of sitting around and waiting. Dobrev confirmed the news with the following happy message on her official Twitter account:
“Sending congratulations to @kayla_0507 and her family. We all secreted this. Her life has been saved. I’m smiling ear to ear … Ps. I’m an organ donor ! Everyone should be ! You can save someone’s life. I am grateful to Kayla’s fearless Hero.”
At the end of the day, the visit by the two actors seems to have meant far more than just their physical presence in front of Kayla; it had people beyond just the local media talking about their story, which in turn made it far easier for local officials to find a way for her to survive in the long-term. While there may have already been some wheels in motion before Somerhalder and Dobrev’s visit, it certainly did not hurt to have their encouragement.
Ultimately, this story just goes to show that even a simple action at times by the right people can be enough to really get the ball rolling in the right direction. This is why we hope that more celebrities moving forward decide to use their powers / fame for good rather than evil.
