‘Homeland’: Damian Lewis finds time pre-season 3 filming for Comic Relief (video)
Damian Lewis has had a little bit of time off over the past several months before production on “Homeland” season 3 kicks off in May; and now, we’ve also had an opportunity to see that he has taken a little bit of this time to give back for the popular Comic Relief event in Great Britain to raise money through laughter for people who need it the most.
While “The Vicar of Dibley” may not be a series that is familiar to most of our American audience, this was an extremely popular British comedy several years ago, and the video below is a bit of a revival designed specifically for the event by show creator and Comic Relief co-founder Richard Curtis. For readers who know Lewis strictly for “Homeland” and nothing else, you get the opportunity to see him play someone of a completely different religion that Nicholas Brody: a Catholic priest. He also has an opportunity to use his native accent for a change, which must be nice after spending so much time working on his American accent to succeed in his Emmy Award-winning role.
The timing of this sketch seems to be especially appropriate given how much the Catholic church has been in the news as of late, with the arrival of Pope Francis now on the scene after just a couple of days of the cardinals taking part in the conclave. While religion is a series though to many people, it can also be a worthy target for some lighthearted humor.
What do you think about this video? If you want to hear Lewis speak out about a “Homeland” season 2 scene so controversial that it was left on the cutting room floor, be sure to check out the story over at the link here.
