FX’s ‘The Americans’ episode 7 review: Does Philip have a son that isn’t Elizabeth’s?
On this week’s episode of “The Americans” the fall out from the KGB’s attack on Philip and Elizabeth is still affecting them both. Not only are they shaken by the fact that their own organization doesn’t trust them, but now they don’t trust each other (which is likely what the KGB wants anyway).
Philip is sent away on a mission that includes reuniting with his ex, Irina, which leaves Elizabeth in a jealous state of mind. When Philip reconnects with Irina it’s like no time has passed – if you remember, when Elizabeth and Philip were first told that they were to marry and given their new identities Philip had a picture of Anne that he tore up.
When Philip and Irina reconnect he tells her that he is married with two children and she tells him that she was married but her husband died and also she has a son. She tells Philip that he is the father of her son, saying that when he was admitted to the academy she was pregnant. Irina says that she didn’t tell him about the pregnancy because she wanted to make sure that Philip followed his dream and she knew that if he found out about the pregnancy he would’ve stayed.
Later that night Elizabeth calls Philip at the hotel and tells him that she’s been thinking about him and that she misses him, but he doesn’t respond – probably because Irina is in his bed with him. The next day Irina asks him to run away with her and he says no, saying that he wants to be with his wife and children also questioning whether or not her son is really his. When Philip gets back home Elizabeth tells him again that she missed him and asks if they can have a real marriage and he says he doesn’t know if he can do that, but he’s willing to try and to make it happen. She asks him to be honest and tell her if anything happened between him and Irina and he says that nothing happened.
Stan and his wife are still having problems, he’s been staying at the office late more and more and his own son questions whether or not he even lives with them anymore. Stan’s co-worker convinces him to come with him to the bar and while they are there he tries to pressure Stan into picking up one of the women there for some side action. Stan decides to leave the bar (without the woman) and calls Nina to meet him. When she meets him he tries to tell her that he’s developed feelings for her, and she kisses him leading to the two of them sleeping together. The next day Stan goes to his boss to find out how to get Nina out of being a spy for them and into safety and his boss tells him that she was never going to stop, there was no end game for her.
Do you want to see Stan and Nina together or do you think this love story is going no where? What do you think will happen when Elizabeth eventually finds out that Philip lied to her about Irina? Leave us a comment and tell us what you think.

I belive the liason with irina in NY was a set up by Claudia to get back at Elizabeth for the brutal beating Claudia received. Why would they pick this particular KGB agent for this job with Phillip, knowing they were lovers 20 years earlier. Irina was not only playing the Polish diploment but also Phillip. By dangling a supposed son of theirs and a ticket to leave in front of him, Claudia was once again verifying Phillips loyalty to the cause..

Love the show
The acting and the writtimg is great.
Stan needs to work on his marriage and so should Phillip.
Telling the truth about Anne will not be a plus.

Love this show … I highly doubt the Nina and Stan romance will develop to the point of him leaving his wife … Philip will probably keep his secret for quite some time … he lied pretty well to her face and I don’t think he feels much guilt, but that could change … Either way, this is one of the best shows to come out on TV in a long time and I am very happy it was renewed for a 2nd season … I worked as an extra for a taping of one of the episodes and saw Kerri Russell and Susan Misner in person … both of them are stunningly beautiful … could not believe Susan is 42 … she looks late 20s … early 30s …
