‘Glee’ season 4 spoilers: First look at Darren Criss’ ‘Against All Odds’
Typically when we are talking here about a performance of “Against All Odds,” it is when a singer on “American Idol” for whatever reason chooses to unfortunately pick this Phil Collins ballad to be their choice of music during a live performance show. It’s just such a difficult song to sing, and a difficult song to get the emotional heart of right, that there are many an artist who are better off not even trying.
However, we are going to see Darren Criss’ “Glee” character of Blaine Anderson be someone who is bold enough to take the song on during the upcoming “Guilty Pleasures” episode airing a week from Thursday, and the photo to the left via executive producer Ryan Murphy gives us a sense of just what the lighting for this is going to be.
If we were to fathom why Blaine would choose this particular song, we are guessing that empowerment has a certain something to do with it. Ever since the end of his relationship with Kurt (Chris Colfer), Blaine’s story has largely revolved around the concept of trying to find himself, how he fits into the world, and what he is capable of on his own. This is a song that is really all about conquering obstacles first and foremost, and Blaine has to feel rather good at the moment about the progress he has made towards being a better, more independent person.
Why do you think that Blaine is considering a performance of this song, and do you think that “Against All Odds” really meets all of the qualifications of a guilty pleasure? I think this is an excellent choice for Darren. I think he is extremely talented and will do an excellent job. I love watching him perform as he is so multi-talented and loves performing..

Sorry, Darren will NOT kick this out of the ball park! Phil Collins is the only multi-talented singer, songwriter, performer who can do this song any justice!

I’m sure Darren is going to kick it out of the ball park. He can create the same rough, scratchy voice Phil uses in parts yet smoothly soften it when needed. Not only does the song fit in well with Blaine’s storyline but I beleive he is the best choice out of the Glee cast to tackle the song.

The best part is that he sings it live acoustic. He seems to be the only cast member that can do this. It shows he has chops and is oozing with talent. If its possible to equal phil Collins darren can above most any other singer
