NBC’s ‘Parenthood’ season 5: Series boss hopeful for renewal

ParenthoodAre we going to see a “Parenthood” season 5? Based on the ratings for some of NBC’s other drama series (see “Smash,” “Deception,” or their now-canceled “Do No Harm”), we have a feeling that we are going to see plenty more of the clam moving forward.

However, executive producer Jason Katims is still doing everything that he can at the moment to be caution on what his series’ odds are of sticking around. Speaking at the show’s PaleyFest panel earlier this week, he refused to actually acknowledge that the show was for sure coming back. Luckily, he still was more than willing to speculate about just what was going to be coming up for characters.

First and foremost, Katims said that there would very likely be a time jump that would fit naturally into the show between seasons; and as for one notable guest star, he was still hoping that he would be able to secure Matt Laurita for more work moving forward:

“Let’s say there’s a Season 5: I absolutely loved the dynamic between [Amber and Ryan] and I would love to continue that storyline … Matt may or may not be available next year, so we’ll have to see what happens.”

Ultimately, we don’t think that we could make our thoughts on the future of “Parenthood” any more clear: we thought that season 4 of the show was one of the finest yet, and it is time and time again the most-underrated thing that NBC has on their schedule. Even if they don’t give it a full 22 episodes, just bring it back for 13-18 so we can have an opportunity to see some more touching storytelling that feels close to everyday life.

How badly do you want to see “Parenthood” come back for more? If you want to read some news about what Jason Ritter is going to be doing on TV moving forward, you can do so over here.
