‘Game of Thrones’ season 3 spoilers: Is the future already set in stone?

Tywin LannisterIn what is surely set to be some of the least-surprising news ever, HBO has a ton of confidence that “Game of Thrones” season 3 is going to be a hit. How much so? If you go by some of the newest comments coming out, it is pretty clear that everyone involved with the series is already starting to prepare for the fourth season when it begins production this summer.

The comment about the show’s future that is drawing so much buzz comes courtesy of Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister), who made the following comment while at a press junket promoting the launch of the just-released season 2 DVD. While just about everything in this comment is something we could have assumed on our own, it is nonetheless rather nice to hear:

“We’re about to start season four aren’t we? This year. We get scripts pretty early on, much earlier on than in similar series, usually you get perhaps one episode and you just have to trust that what’s going to come in subsequent episodes is going to be as good as the one you’ve got, but in this I think there are six scripts already written, and we will probably be able to see them with more than adequate time to prepare before we start shooting.”

It should be made very clear here first and foremost that HBO has not made an announcement about a season 4 renewal yet despite Dance’s comment, and they probably will not until around an episode or two into season 3. We all know that the series will be a ratings monster, but this is just the way that the network traditionally does things when it comes to their successful shows. After all, it’s a great PR move to announce a renewal just a short amount of time into a season.

As for the “scripts” comment, there may be some ideas written down, but we have a difficult time believing that anything is finalized in this department yet.

If you had an opportunity to miss out on the extended “Game of Thrones” season 3 trailer, you can do so by hitting up the story here.
