Ratings: ‘Cult’ and ‘Body of Proof’ premieres sink; NBC’s ‘Smash’ continues to slide

Do you hear that sound? It is of network executives crying underneath their desks. This has been at times an atrocious winter season, and based on the newest ratings that have come in, and does not look as though the bleeding is going to stop anytime soon.

Save for “The Following,” has there been any new show premiering this spring that has actually fared well? We honestly expected “Cult” to start with low numbers, but even with that being said we still predicted more than a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic along with 940,000 viewers. We have a major bone to pick on The CW over this one, mostly because the show really dug their own grave in giving the show a timeslot that does not make any sense.”Cult” has almost nothing in common with “Hart of Dixie” at 8:00 p.m. Eastern, so there is little to no brand synergy present here at all. Why did you not capitalize on the fact that Matt Davis, the star of your show, was a part of “The Vampire Diaries” and aired it after “Beauty and the Beast”? If we’re being honest, we think that “Cult” would have drawn at least a 0.5 airing after The CW’s highest-rated show, and the only reason the Kristin Rreuk drama is scoring the numbers it is is thanks to its timeslot.

Meanwhile, “Smash” came a step closer to the curtain dropping with a 0.9 rating, which really just goes to show that “The Voice,” like with “Go On,” is the only reason this show had okay ratings to begin with. Expect it to be either pulled for the summer soon, or allowed to just run its course because NBC has nothing better to do with the timeslot.

Finally, we turn to “Body of Proof.” With a 1.4 rating, all ABC proved in renewing this show is that they made a pretty poor decision. (Rim shot.)
