Ratings: ‘Once Upon a Time,’ ‘Revenge’ season 2 up slightly over last week’s lows
Just as we saw last year, there is a sense of panic starting to settle in among fans of a couple of selected ABC shows. After all, “Once Upon a Time” and “Revenge” have two of the biggest fan followings out of any series on the network, so we understand there being case for concern any time that we see the numbers drop.
The good news this week? Following the Grammys, both series were up to a 2.3 and 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic, respectively. The increase for “Revenge” was more substantial than “Once Upon a Time,” but at least both shows did recover somewhat from the abyss that they were in last week.
So is there genuine cause for concern? This may matter at the moment more so than the actual ratings for the past two weeks. We really will not know until the DVR numbers for both shows come in (which will be at least another week), mostly because it’s still to be seen if people just stopped watching, or they set their recording devices rather than watching live. There is also something else that has been lost in some of the other sites over the past couple of days: in between all of the awards shows and the Super Bowl, viewers may just want to have a Sunday night away from the TV. These sort of big drops happened during awards season last year, too, and they recovered somewhat leading up to the finale.
Ultimately, know this: “Once Upon a Time” should be back near a 3.0 rating by the finale pending something surprising happening, while “Revenge” will hopefully be over a 2.0 again. The latter show is clearly in the most danger, and right now we’d classify it as a toss-up to be renewed.
For those who are curious, the premiere of “The Amazing Race 22” fell to a 2.4 rating this week, but you should still feel relieved with the knowledge that the series is still the highest-rated thing CBS has going on Sunday nights.
