‘Community’ season 4: Star-Burns actor rips NBC for Dan Harmon firing
Well, here’s one actor that will probably not be showing up on “Community” season 4 anytime soon.
As you probably know from reading our review, what came as a result of NBC and Sony Pictures TV’s big move to fire creator and showrunner Dan Harmon was a show that was moderately funny, but also a shell of its former self. We would argue that season 2 of the show in particular is the best season of any comedy series within the last five years; meanwhile, season 4 thus far has been just another comedy on TV.
One person who didn’t want to stick around without Harmon on board? Dino Stamatopoulos, who you probably know better for his cheeky character Star-Burns. In an appearance on HuffPost Live this week, the actor, who was also a writer and consulting producer on the show, held nothing back in explaining why he left, and what is happening to NBC now as a result:
“I quit as soon as Dan Harmon was let go as the showrunner … I left in solidarity, which was a very brave thing to do. Also, I hate acting … I think [NBC executives] should come out of the closet and admit that they don’t have a creative bone in their body.”
Stamatopoulos is hardly the first writer or producer once associated with “Community” to say goodbye following season 3, as Neil Goldman, Garrett Donovan, and Chris McKenna (the man in part behind “Remedial Chaos Theory”) all left for other projects. Meanwhile, Megan Ganz announced recently that she will not be around for a potential season 5.
Then again, we don’t think the odds here for renewal are high: we feel bad for the actors and the crew members who have put so much work into the show, but with the ratings low as they are to begin with, “Community” needed to be fantastic this season. Sadly, it’s more along the lines of so-so.
What do you think about these comments? If you want to see what Joel McHale recently had to say about Chevy Chase leaving the show, you can do so over at the link here.

You can really tell the difference in the quality of writing this season. A shame since it is a really good cast.
