‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Some scoop on the writing process

You’ve likely already heard the news that “Dexter” season 8 is set to start shooting on Monday, and that the cast has already come in to do some of the first table-reads on the season premiere. So what is coming up beyond this? While we do not know much in the way of specifics save for a few characters that will be turning up, we do not have a little bit more of a sense of at least how far along the writers are in the process of crating scripts.

In a new post on Twitter Tuesday, story editor, co-producer, writer, and host of the wonderful “Wrap-Up” podcast Scott Reynolds announced that he was working on breaking the fifth episode of the season, which is also one that he wrote. For those unfamiliar with screenwriting terminology, “breaking” is basically a review of the script to ensure that the elements in place do not need to be corrected or changed for production or even pre-production. (It of course takes much more work than this, but this is a simple explanation.)

Reynolds was responsible for some of the stronger episodes of season 7, including “Swim Deep” and “The Dark … Whatever,” and has been a part of the show for the majority of its run. There is no word on who is writing the premiere, but we presume that executive producer Scott Buck, who wrote the season 7 finale, will be very much involved with it, even if he is not the primary writer.
