BBC America news: ‘Doctor Who’ season 7 tease, a ‘Ripper Street’ renewal

For those of you lovely people out there who are devoted viewers of BBC America, there is quite a bit to celebrate on this Tuesday night.

First of all, let’s start things off with the news that “Ripper Street” will be back to present more cases in East London next year. Despite still having many season 1 episodes still to air, the co-production with BBC One in the UK has already received a season 2 renewal, with new episodes returning to the networks both in America and Great Britain in 2014.

In a statement, here is what the Senior Vice-President of Programming for BBC America in Richard De Croce had to say:

“Ripper Street on BBC America has just begun, with an additional six more episodes featuring great guest stars and powerful performances ahead this season. We’re looking forward to exploring more of Victorian London in season two.”

Meanwhile, we also have below the latest teaser trailer for the remaining eight episodes of “Doctor Who” season 7, which will be airing on both coasts beginning on March 30. Sadly, this trailer is going to make you angry if you are looking for some actual footage. Instead, what we have here are more or less bullet points on what we can expect, include a meaty story from Jenna-Louise Coleman as The Doctor’s new companion … who is also holding on to a secret.

BBC America has done a stellar job in the past few years in working on a successful model, which involved creating quality content for multiple countries, and also (unlike ITV and “Downton Abbey”) making sure that no one is forced to wait for months on end for it to premiere. (Now, if only “Sherlock” aired here rather than on PBS…)
