‘Dexter’ season 8: Michael C. Hall talks move to summer

Thanks to Michael C. Hall’s appearance at the Sundance Film Festival in promotion of “Kill Your Darlings,” we are getting plenty of opportunities to hear some early scoop on “Dexter” season 8 … even if the show has yet to even pick up filming.

So what does the actor have to say about the show moving to summer after spending so many years firmly camped in the fall? Hall was asked this very question by “Access Hollywood” in a new interview, and his answer (which you can also watch below) is something that you may have assumed based on the information that is already out there: Showtime is interested in using “Dexter” to help launch a new show in “Ray Donovan,” and this gives them an opportunity to do so while “Homeland” is paired with “Masters of Sex.”

Meanwhile, Hall also says that one of the benefits for the early air date this year is that it allows the momentum that build up from this past season to continue going strong, which is probably a good thing given that we are still on pins and needles trying to figure out just what will happen now that LaGuerta is dead and it was actually Deb, and not her brother, who pulled the trigger.

Airing new series after “Dexter” is obviously a smart idea, given that it is Showtime’s highest-rated series both in total viewers and in the 18-49 demographic. After all, just look at how well this strategy worked for “Homeland,” which has quickly become a hit almost on the same level (and even more so when it comes to critics).
