‘CSI: NY’ season 9 spoilers: Josh Groban to play…

While Josh Groban over the years has taken on a fiction role as Andy’s brother on “The Office,” he is now in a sense returning to the roots that he established on “Glee” back in season 1: playing a version of himself.

According to a brand-new report from Entertainment Weekly, the singer is going to be appearing on the upcoming Valentine’s Day-themed episode of “CSI: NY,” which of course airs during the February sweeps. This is going to be a similar sort of role to what Tony Bennett and Carrie Underwood did while on “Blue Bloods” last season: they show up for a scene, get to have a little bit of fun, and then perform a song in an effort to plug their album. It’s a little extra star power for CBS (which needs it for some of these older-skewing shows that often fail to get publicity), and at the same time it is an opportunity for the artists to get out to a larger audience.

Specifically, Groban here will be performing “Happy in My Heartache,” a song from his February 5 release “All That Echoes,” in a restaurant. Ultimately, we have a feeling that he will probably not be the murderer, just as Adam Lambert did not turn out to be “A” when he appeared as himself on the “Pretty Little Lairs” Halloween special.

“CSI: NY” was a pretty firm bubble show on CBS at this point last year, as the ratings were low enough that many felt it would be canceled rather than the Miami version of the show. It is in danger once again this year, as “Blue Bloods” has risen in recent weeks and “Undercover Boss” has also shown consistency.
