‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 9, episode 11 review: Ignorance is bliss
If you have been told that you were just about handed $15 million, you’re almost certain to let your guard down at some point to celebrate your good fortune … even if it comes under tragic circumstances. With that in mind, it’s hard to criticize any of the doctors on “Grey’s Anatomy” for letting their hair down a little bit on Thursday night in the wake of the airplane lawsuit presumably coming to a close.
As the doctors mourned Mark and Lexis and did what they could to encourage Arizona and Derek following their devastating injuries, they also had another realization in front of them: they were now filthy rich, and much of the world was truly at their fingertips. As a matter of fact, Meredith was in such a pleasant mood that she even spilled the beans on her pregnancy.
Then, the other shoe drop. Just as we and many other fans around the world predicted, Owen learned that a loophole in the hospital’s insurance policy meant that they were suddenly responsible for paying the tabs on all five of the surviving doctors from the crash … and that’s not the sort of money a functioning hospital has. Really, it looked as though the only option left is for Seattle Grace to close its doors, which means that we could be devoid of more Jackson / Avery flirtation and that inevitable moment where Alex and Jo finally hook up.
Unfortunately, Shonda Rhimes is saving the tail end of this story for another day, and we are just left at the moment with questions. Will Owen be the one to break the news to the doctors, and if the hospital does find a way to stay afloat, is he going to be able to keep his job? All we know is that many of these people are likely going to be in a less celebratory mood when they arrive to work soon and find out the cold, hard truth.
