AMC’s ‘The Killing’ season 3 return official; details on Mireille Enos, Joel Kinnaman
It has certainly taken long enough, but “The Killing” season 3 is no longer killed. After months of speculation, the worst-kept secret in Hollywood has finally been announced.
This is clearly great news for fans of the AMC show, even though there are still many questions about where it plans to go from here and how many viewers will actually come back (or even know that it has been un-canceled to begin with). For now, let’s focus on what we do know:
1. Production on the new episodes begins in February, and it will almost certainly premiere a little later in the year than it did for season 2.
2. Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will each be back as Londen and Holder, but the same cannot be said for Billy Campbell, Brent Sexton, and many of the other main characters. Showrunner Veena Sud will also be back, meaning that AMC has managed to find a show for the time being with a showrunner that they seemingly get along with.
3. The story this time will be self-contained within 12 episodes, which means there will be no outrage as there was at the end of season 1 when the Rosie Larsen case continued.
4. Linden will actually not start the season as a detective anymore, but a case from her past will end up dragging her back into something happening in the present.
5. There is no word at the moment about Netflix’s involvement with the show, even though they at one point seemed to be jumping on as co-producers.
In a statement, here is what Sud had to say about the renewal:
“I couldn’t be happier to know that I will be returning to work with AMC, FTVS and Mireille and Joel on what is and has always been a passion project for me. To the fans that have supported the series, thank you for doing so. My team and I will work hard to deliver the best story that we can for season three.”
