2013 Golden Globes predictions: Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin, and Maggie Smith
We have done a few individual preview articles throughout the past week and a half leading up to the launch of the 2013 Golden Globes on Sunday; but now that the show is finally here, it’s time to really put all of the cards on the table not just in terms of who should win some of these trophies, but who will.
There are some categories this year (Drama Series, Drama Actress, Supporting Actress) that are pretty easy to call, but luckily there are also some races that are pretty wide open. There is no unanimous favorite in any of the comedic categories, and there is an outside chance of a surprise happening in the Drama Actor category.
Our picks
Drama Series – “Homeland” (read more why here) – It will win, and it probably should based on the nominees; though with that being said, we’d also be happy for “Breaking Bad.”
Comedy Series – “Modern Family” (read more why here) – Golden Globe voters will probably just check this by default, though it is really time that someone recognizes “The Big Bang Theory” for being both funny and also mainstream.
Drama Actor – Damian Lewis, “Homeland” – He’s not necessarily a better choice than Bryan Cranston, but you have to pick the hot show.
Drama Actress – Claire Danes, “Homeland” – She will win, she should win, and we really don’t think anyone else even has a chance.
Comedy Actor – Jim Parsons, “The Big Bang Theory” – This is the hardest race to call. The Globes love “Episodes” (hence Matt LeBlanc winning this), and they also love Alec Baldwin. Either of these three or Louis C.K. could win this, but we’re going to say that Parsons has the edge.
Comedy Actress – Amy Poehler, “Parks and Recreation” – Hey, she’s hosting the show. It’s either going to be her or Lena Dunham, and given that Amy is perpetually-snubbed of winning we’ll be rooting for her.
Supporting Actress – Maggie Smith, “Downton Abbey” – We don’t really think this will be that competitive, and nor should it be.
Supporting Actor – Mandy Patinkin, “Homeland” – Eric Stonestreet does a great job on “Modern Family,” but there could be some fatigue now with that show winning so many awards. Mandy is a little bit of a welcome alternative.
Of course, be sure to check back all night long for up-to-the-minute analysis on all of the winners and so much more. Want to go more in-depth on the series categories? Be sure to head over to the article here.
