‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: A suspicious episode title
Do you want a reason to worry over a character’s possible future on “Supernatural” season 8, you’re going to get it courtesy of an upcoming episode title. Then again, maybe all hearing this will do to you is force you to picture Michael Scott reinvent the identically-titled song into “Goodbye, Toby.”
According to a report coming in via SpoilerTV, the episode that is coming up near the end of the season (as it is episode #17) will be carrying with it the ominous moniker of “Goodbye, Stranger.” What could this mean? There are a number of possibilities, and not all of them suggest that a character could be saying farewell to the show:
1. This could just be an allusion to a goodbye that actually happens within the episode. Isn’t that more than a little bit possible?
2. It may not have anything to do with someone leaving at all, and it could just be a reference to the aforementioned song.
3. We do end up losing a character that we already know, but given that the title includes the word “stranger,” how well could we really know them to begin with?
We’re hesitant at the moment to think that we could be on the cusp of seeing a big goodbye happen here on the show, if for no other reason than that it feels almost too obvious for the show to give an episode this title only to later pull the rug out from under viewers all over the country.
Do you think there is any specific representation going on with this title? We want to hear any and all theories below! If you want to hear some more news pertaining to what Misha Collins’ character of Castiel is going to be up to on the show moving forward, you can do so over at the link here.

Someone mentioned in another thread that this is apparently the episode where Castiel makes his next appearance.
Much as I hate to admit it, if that person is right about this, then I have a feeling that the episode title WILL apply to him. After all of the recurring character deaths in the last few seasons, there really is noone else that it could be.
They mentioned that ‘farewell, stranger’ could potentially mean that the brothers’ minds could be wiped of their memories of Castiel.
However, I think it is much more likely that Naomi will have tampered with Cas’ memories instead of the other way around; she has no hold over the brothers and would have no means of being able to get them into a position to wipe their memories in the first place. We’ve already seen that she can force Cas to do things against his morals, such as killing Samandriel, so manipulating Cas’ perception of his relationship with the brothers? Yeah, it’s incredibly feasible, unfortunately.
On the other hand, mental alterations have already been done to Castiel in spades after season 7 and I can’t see the writer’s going too far into it for a second time. Additionally, I also doubt they will kill Cas off at this point. Without Cas, we have no point of reference for sympathy about the going’s on in Heaven. It affects the other characters relatively little in the long run and the only other angel we know of now is Naomi… and I don’t think anyone really cares much how she feels about the potential abuse of a tablet describing the secrets of her race, to be honest.
The fact that Cas is a popular character is another point in his favour for not being killed-off just yet and unless they cram a lot of the Heaven/tablets storyline into the last few episodes, we haven’t really seen Cas involved with anything to do with the main plotlines other than to HULK-SMASH a tablet in half and freak the brothers out a bit. True, WE know that something major is going on with Naomi and the angels, but none of the other characters do; that part is from CAS’ point of view so we know only as much as he does, and the brothers themselves know nothing of it. So, the plot hasn’t moved on for them.
Long story short? If it is a goodbye to one of the few recurring characters that are left at this point, I doubt it will be a permanent one.
