‘Downton Abbey’ season 3 Christmas special spoilers: More on Edith, season 4
Are you ready for the “Downton Abbey” season 3 Christmas special? Let’s hope so, given that all viewers in Britain will have already checked the special out three days from now. It is going to be a lengthy affair that features the Earl Robert opting to make a visit along with his family up to Duneagle Castle, an estate that is run in part by his cousin (a man who the Dowager Countess has quite a habit of yelling at on the phone). There are spoilers ahead for the American audience, so be sure to stop now if you want to be surprised about season 3 as a whole.
If you are curious as to why this trip is happening to begin with, hopefully some new comments from Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith) to the Daily Mail will help to clear things up a little:
“[Creator] Julian Fellowes is really interested in how everyone adjusted to life after the war, so for Robert this trip is a reminder of how things used to be done, with big dinners, guns and tiaras for married ladies.”
It is not entirely clear yet just what sort of role Edith will have in this special, but there is still some more hope that she could find love after the heartbreak suffered at the hands of Sir Anthony earlier on in the season. She is not the only person potentially getting a love connection, though, as we are going to be seeing Mrs. Patmore potentially find a little romance of her own while she stays at Downton Abbey preparing for a grand fair.
As for what is in store for Edith following the special, Carmichael claims that this is something even she does not know at the moment:
“We try to get as much out of Julian as possible, but he keeps everything under his hat.”
