First trailer: Showtime’s ‘Masters of Sex’ and ‘Ray Donovan’
Showtime has clearly found a winner this fall with their lineup of “Dexter” and “Homeland,” so with that in mind, the network is obviously hoping to strike gold again with some other shows airing throughout the year. The network has unveiled a new trailer for a pair of new programs coming up in 2013, and both seem to have something rather fantastic to offer.
“Masters of Sex” – Get your mind out of the gutter: this isn’t that kind of premium cable show. Rather, Michael Sheen stars in this adaptation of a true story as famed Dr. William Masters, who is looking to redefine the basic understanding of human sexuality along with his partner Johnson (Lizzie Caplan). The basic premise of the show is interesting, but like many other period adaptations on TV these days (“Mad Men,” “Magic City”), this is really all going to depend on the quality of the writing and the performances. After all, there will be no guns or visual effects to hide behind.
“Ray Donovan” – Speaking of violence, we are going to see plenty of this courtesy of a show featuring Liev Schreiber as a man who has one real job: negotiating with some of the famous Los Angeles power players, and also potentially making some of them disappear. There are going to be a plethora of other all-star players on this particular show, and it includes the likes of Jon Voight and Elliott Gould. This is going to be an interesting show to watch given that it paints the celebrity world in a much darker light than we traditionally see on some other shows.
