‘Supernatural’ season 8 spoilers: ‘Fright Night Lights’ star and a link to Sam and Dean
Who is ready to go back in time on “Supernatural” season 8? In an episode early next year,we are going to be seeing Sam and Dean interact with someone from the past; however, unlike an certain season 4 episode, they are not going to be the ones doing the time traveling at all.
Rather, HuffPost TV is reporting that former “Friday Night Lights” star Gil McKinney is set to appear in the upcoming 12th episode of the season as Henry, the grandfather of Sam and Dean on their father’s side. It’s hard to say what exactly will cause Henry to appear in the present: could it be something else from the present pushing him forward into what would be his future, or is he really so shrewd of a man that he figure out time travel decades ago?
Regardless, series star Jensen Ackles told the website that the appearance of the character will provide “some insight into the life and the legacy of [his family], which is something that we as characters never really knew.” Considering that we are eight seasons into the show, any opportunity that we have to see something new out of the Winchesters is very much appreciated and something extremely rare.
Thus far, “Supernatural” has been extremely successful in its move to Wednesday nights following the network’s new smash in “Arrow.” The ratings are up versus last year, and while it may be a polarizing topic, the quality also seems to be higher.

“The ratings are up versus last year”- You don’t say? You can blame it on the Wednesday time slot or popularity of “Arrow” but I really think it’s the return of a certain angel that I know I’ve been missing (and stopped watching the show because of it) and has now returned in proper form (and so have I). Wecome back, Castiel!
