The CW already looking to cast lead in ‘Wonder Woman’ project

The folks over at The CW are smart, and with that they have quickly realized one thing following the success of “Arrow” this season: if you have a formula that works, why not stick with it?

With this in mind, it should not come as much of a surprise at all that the network, per multiple sources, is already looking to cast a female lead for a potential “Wonder Woman” pilot that could be ordered by the network. It’s a somewhat-unusual move to cast a character without an official commitment for a pilot, but this is a move that is sometimes done in the event that you can use a certain actor or a character as a primary selling point.

For those of you looking for specifics, here is what we (per a report from Deadline) know for sure the network is looking for: a young woman who is at least 5’8” with similar characteristics to the classic DC Comics character. This is a much harder search in many ways even than the hunt for Oliver Queen, as you have to find someone who is both tall enough and athletic. Personally, we hope that producers work to find someone who possesses the Wonder Woman spirit rather than someone who looks exactly like the character; remember, some people protested Daniel Craig being James Bond, and look how that has turned out.

So what is our major critique at the moment? That for some inexplicable reason, they have made this origin story revolve around someone named Iris … not Diana. This is like making a Batman series without the name Bruce Wayne; it can work, but you better have a fantastic story to back it up, since otherwise you are infuriating a whole legion of fans.
