‘Gossip Girl’ series finale spoilers: First official details from The CW!

The December 17 series finale for “Gossip Girl” is really not that far away anymore, and with that in mind, we have to share something that is beyond exciting: the first official details coming in courtesy of a synopsis from The CW.

Unfortunately, this synopsis still does not really reveal very much, as the first half of it is devoted solely to the one-hour special preceding the actual episode airing, and then all the matter portion of it does is merely tease the upcoming reveal of “Gossip Girl” that is supposed to in some way leave a number of jaws on the floor:

“The Series Finale begins with the stars and executive producers bidding farewell to the Upper East Side in a look back at the show’s many unforgettable moments. Then, in a fashionable farewell to remember, our favorite Upper East Siders join forces for one last soiree, and the shocking identity of Gossip Girl is finally revealed.”

With all the criticism that season 6 of the show has thus far received in between unlikable new characters (Sage) and bringing back unlikable characters from the past (Bart Bass), the truth is that the final reveal, if executed right, could really make most of that go away. However, producers have quite a challenge before themselves now in trying to find a way to make this big reveal compelling, while at the same time staying true to the story of the show and making the identity of the infamous blogger work with all of the clues that are out there already. (Translation: If producers for whatever reason decide to make gossip girl into a dude, there are probably going to be some people with pitchforks on their doorstep.)
