‘Downton Abbey’ season 3: Is season 4 renewal news coming soon?

It’s almost inevitable at this point that a “Downton Abbey” season 4 will be on its way on ITV next year, and Julian Fellowes even believes that it will happen, but there is one pesky problem with this at the moment: the network has yet to actually confirm the news just.

Luckily, on this Thanksgiving in America it is looking as though there is plenty to be thankful about. According to The Hollywood Reporter, executive producer Careth Neame says that he expects some sort of decision on the future of the show to be made within the coming days. Therefore, we could know for sure about season by the time November is over! This is especially welcome news for those of us who do not want to anticipate the Christmas special without also irrationally worrying that it could be the last episode for the whole series at the same time.

As we have said already, there are still numerous other questions that remain about the cast of the show for season 4, as neither Dan Stevens (Matthew) nor Maggie Smith (the Dowager Countess) are currently under contract. However, there is still so much time before prospective filming dates next year for negotiations to happen, and given that this is not a show that requires a full-year commitment to film, we would still be stunned if either actor were to sign off before giving the show one more season to either potentially wrap up their character’s story, or for the show to end outright.

If and when the show gets renewed for a fourth season, what sort of stories do you want to see “Downton Abbey” tackle next? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below.
