‘American Horror Story: Asylum’ episode 5 review: [Spoiler’s] Bloody Face shocker
There is still quite a bit about “American Horror Story: Asylum” that we do admittedly not understand fully, but Wednesday night’s new episode at least brought us the conclusion of one mystery: is Kit really Bloody Face? As it turns out, the answer here is no; not only that, but his arrest for murder was really set up by someone who has quickly proven himself to be the smartest man in the room. (Warning: the following contains major spoilers.)
What made the grand reveal that Zachary Quinto’s Dr. Thredson is really a killer so very interesting is that it was actually pretty obvious that he would be the guy; after all, who else was capable of doing everything outside of the asylum based on what we have come to know? However, the show managed to still make the way in which the reveal happened stunning, as just when it appeared as though Lana was going to finally be free of Briarcliff, she is now off someplace that is arguably far worse than she ever imagined. With all of this being said, we do have to wonder one thing: how is Thredson going to keep this a secret? It’s going to look suspicious that Lana disappeared on his last day, and he did not want to go back in to look at “Anne Frank” (who turned out to not be Anne Frank at all).
We have no idea how Lana is going to get out of this, just as at the moment we have no idea how in the world Kit is going to escape his new predicament. Thredson lied to him in getting a recorded confessional from him as “therapy,” and has now used it to throw anyone off the scene for a while that the real criminal could still be out there. Does anyone else think, though, that Thredson’s floor looks suspiciously like the “alien chamber”? Don’t blame this on E.T. just yet…
Away from all of this incredible action, there are still three other stellar moments from this episode worth mentioning:
1. Sister Jude has fallen completely off the wagon now; and yet somehow, this could be the key to her turning Briarcliff around. Could Jessica Lange be any more fantastic?
2. Arden is a member of the SS as suggested by the final shot of the episode, though unfortunately he may have more power than ever at the asylum thanks to his decision to try and seek charges against Jude.
3. Who would have thought that we would see Shelly crawling around on a school playground? As horrifying as her form may be, the good news is that she is alive, and thus could tell the tale about what happened to her.
