‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 4 spoilers: Is Elena about to blow your mind?

Rather than this latest bit of information about “The Vampire Diaries” season 4 being the sort of thing that will blow the roof off Mystic Falls as we write, this one is a bit more speculative … but the news that comes out of it could be far more explosive than anything we could tell you here.

What are we talking about? According to Entertainment Weekly, something that one of the vampire characters does during Thursday night’s new episode is going to shock the show’s loyal fanbase in ways that they did not think could be possible. As of right now, the only feasible candidates we see for this include Elena, Damon, Stefan, Klaus, Caroline, and Tyler (even though the latter is still someone we think of as a werewolf first). While we have seen evidence of Katherine returning to the show this week, it’s not clear that she is actually a physical presence compared to just a hallucination that Elena suffers while trying to get over the fact that she killed Connor, who she did not know could be the key to her and her pals finding a cure for vampirism as a whole.

Whatever happens during this episode, the one thing that we do know is that these characters will have a lot going on in Mystic Falls after it happens, and there will also be at least one more episode airing this fall before the show goes on hiatus until the new year. The biggest threat to the vampires at the moment may actually be coming from within: Jeremy, who thanks to Connor’s death is starting to get more in touch just with who he really is.
