The truth here is that His Dark Materials could really be described as one unsettling reveal after the next. We’re hopeful for Lyra to find some of what she wants, but also aware that it won’t come easy. Very little within this world ultimately is. She’s already dealt with betrayals and abandonment. These really are the sort of things that do define a lot of who she is as a character, and now that we’re at the halfway point, we feel like the narrative is only going to heat up.
