The Affair series finale: Did Joshua Jackson, Ruth Wilson return?
Did the series finale satisfy? That probably depends on what you were looking to get out of it in the first place. If you wanted to see Noah and Helen together, you got it. Does this mean Noah is forgiven? That’s hard to debate, but we do think that he recognized what it is that he wants and also the value of real love — there were just a lot of issues every single step of the way. He just figured out that just like trauma can withstand years, so can love. There can be darkness and light. The conversation between the future version of Noah and then also Joanie at the end of the finale encapsulates almost all of it in a beautifully-profound way.

Did we see the beautiful shot of an older version of Noah dancing at the end of the series finale? Not, but it shows where he is now — he is free. He may be lonely and suffering in some ways, but he is very much free. There is something to rejoice in that.
Did Joshua Jackson or Ruth Wilson return?
Given how important they were for most of the series, we were very much curious to learn whether one of them would come back for even a cameo. After all, it would’ve been nice to get some more closure on Cole and his life, even if we got some of it courtesy of Joanie.
Yet, there was no appearance from either actor in the finale. Our guess as to why that happened is rather simple: Clearly, the folks over at The Affair behind the scenes didn’t just want to shoehorn someone into the story for the sake of doing so.
