ABC gives ‘The Neighbors,’ ‘Scandal’ full seasons

Who said that good reviews matter? For a prime example of this, just check out what has happened when it comes to the fact that “The Neighbors,” which was a show that was pretty much lambasted by us and other critics upon its premiere, is going to be around for the rest of the season.

ABC confirmed on Monday night that the comedy would receive a full 22-episode order after drawing solid (though not stellar) numbers in their lineup on Wednesday nights following “The Middle.” The show has still developed a loyal following despite the reviews, with many people even claiming that the show has built momentum and is actually now one of the betters shows on TV. If this is truly the case, we will have to see what the numbers actually are come next year.

Meanwhile, the news was also good for “Scandal,” which was put in a little bit of an unusual position for a second-year show this fall. Since it got off to such a limited start last year, ABC decided to not really give this show that much of a firm commitment before it saw how it would perform in the fall. Luckily, it has stayed extremely consistent all year long with a 1.9-2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. It’s not clear if this will be enough to actually get the show anything beyond this season, but Shonda Rhimes still has to be smiling ear to ear after the news about “Private Practice” turned out to be bad after six seasons on the air.
