Watchmen spoilers: An origin story for Sister Night coming

Through the first episode of HBO’s Watchmen, we had a chance to learn about a lot of different things … with Regina King being a crime-stopping hero-of-sorts being among them. While we don’t know if superheroes are clear-cut within this world, she’s taking it upon herself to don a costume with a name (Sister Night) before venturing out into the world.

Yet, what questions still remain? For starters, there is the mystery as to why she first adopted this alter ego in the first place. What drew her to becoming this? While it’s clear at this point that this is a very-different world from our own society, the majority of people aren’t developing these sort of separate identities. There is a turning point that brings them to this, or a key decision that they make that allows the light bulb to go off.

Speaking in a new interview with TVLine, series star Regina King offers some assurances that we will have a chance to learn some answers, at least at some point, as to why Sister Night is the way that she is:

“We do find out why she chose Sister Night, and there’s an emotional pull … You find out the backstory and why, but then there’s going to be another connection to it.”

As if knowing this news wasn’t enough to get you excited, also consider this: You’re going to have a chance to encounter something “big, blue, and provocative” during episode 3. Given what we know about the source material, it’s easy to figure out what direction the story is going to be pointing us in with that. We just have to make it to that point, and hope that some of the things we learn along the way are creatively satisfying.

To date, Watchmen has lived up at least to our expectations of it being a worthy extension of the world established in the source material. We gotta wait to uncover if it’s going to be a truly great series. The ratings, at least so far, are reasonable.
