New Amsterdam season 2 episode 5 spoilers: Sharpe’s personal case

As we approach New Amsterdam season 2 episode 5 on NBC next week, here’s an important thing to consider: Everyone has a personal case on this show. Every doctor, in one way or another, is going to feel connected to what’s going on with at least one patient. These are doctors tasked with saving lives, sure, but they’re also humans. It’s impossible for them to just turn off that part of their brain and go about their day.

The question that comes in and out of the series is simply this: How are some of these characters going to react to these twists when they happen? How are they going to cope with them? This upcoming episode in particular could prove to be a big one for Helen Sharpe, as she takes on an issue that is going to speak to her … and also get her collaborating with Dr. Max Goodwin on it.

We’re in that part of New Amsterdam right now where so much of the story is about the build — it’s about bringing these characters from point A to point B and furthering along their story in interesting directions. It’s harder to deliver huge reveals or shockers in October, but you can still present some twists that will matter as you keep that build goin’. Maybe you’ll get that with all of the stories mentioned above … though we’re sure that there are some other twists that NBC is keeping from us. This is, after all, one of the shorter synopses out there.
