‘The Carrie Diaries’: Go back in time with AnnaSophia Robb’s Carrie Bradshaw
While there still is no firm premiere date for “The Carrie Diaries” on The CW save for the fact that we know it will be early next year, this is not stopping the network from releasing some new photos from the show that definitely bring back the spirit of the 1980s when this show is supposedly set.
When it comes to at least getting the spirit of the times right, we certainly approve of the look that AnnaSophia Robb has in the picture to the left as Carrie Bradshaw. The hair is big, the fashion is loud, and you can see a little bit of the same personality that Sarah Jessica Parker brought to the role so many years ago.
Does this really change the problems that the show may have? Not at all, and this is probably why this midseason entry more than others is going to have to work extra hard to win us over. While you can reboot a superhero and give them a new backstory, it’s harder to reboot something as classic as “Sex and the City,” and this show seems more interested on billing it as a prequel instead, but then changing some elements of Carrie’s backstory. The good news is that Carrie never really talked too much about her past on the HBO show, but the bad news is that some of the details (including her father) still do not line up in the slightest. The fact that we are such huge fans of the original show is probably what is still causing so much hesitancy here, though we are not sure what the percentage of diehard Carrie fans will be watching versus The CW’s typical audience of young women who just saw the previews and were curious.
What do you think of this photo, and for the “Sex and the City” fans out there, do you think that it is an accurate depiction of Carrie?
