Ratings: Prodigal Son, Bluff City Law fare well in week 2; All Rise slips
Without further ado, let’s dive right in…
Prodigal Son – With a 1.0 live rating in the demo and more than 4.1 million viewers, the Tom Payne – Michael Sheen series kept all of its premiere audience and actually added a few viewers in each measure. That’s rare for a new series, and it was buoyed likely by airing after 9-1-1, tied with The Voice for the top show of the night with a 1.6.
Bluff City Law – Meanwhile, the NBC series following The Voice drew a 0.8 rating and also 4.67 million viewers. It couldn’t match The Good Doctor for #1 in its timeslot, but it held pretty close to steady in both measurements. Not bad for week 2.
All Rise – The news was a little less great for the legal drama on CBS, which slipped around 13% in the demo to a 0.6 and just under 7% in viewers to around 5.6 million. We didn’t have huge expectations for this series, but there’s nothing about this that gives us extreme confidence that it will be around until finale season in May.
Bob ♥ Abishola – Ultimately, it’s hard to think here that the news is good at all. With a 0.7 rating in week two, down almost 20% from the premiere, this comedy may not be able to find any long-term footing. That’s going to be depressing for CBS, given its re-teaming with Chuck Lorre and bringing back Mike & Molly star Billy Gardell for something new. In general, this hasn’t been a great fall for CBS so far, which lost The Big Bang Theory and already lost a ton of steam with Young Sheldon.
Out of these four shows, Prodigal Son and Bluff City Law are the two showing the most promise. While neither is showing a ton of promise in just live viewership alone, they’ve each done enough to make us think that with DVR viewing included, they are worth their networks trying to keep them around for as long as possible.
