Prodigal Son episode 3 preview: A Timeless alum & ‘Fear Response’

Prodigal Son

Moving into Prodigal Son episode 3 on Fox next week, there are a couple of different things to be excited for! Take, for example, a chance to dive deeper into these characters … and also to see a familiar face for all Timeless fans out there!

As confirmed by Fox, Sakina Jaffrey (who you probably know as Agent Christopher on the aforementioned time-travel series, or from her work on House of Cards) is going to be turning up on next week’s new episode a psychologist who may end up being involved in a case that he is working on. That should prove fascinating from a behavioral point of view, especially since so much of this story is about behavior. Studying The Surgeon’s behavior is one of the reasons why Malcolm has shown himself to be anywhere near as good as he’s been at his job, and the more that he does it, the better he could be … but also the more others could worry about him. It’s one of those things where you don’t want someone to spend so much time with a killer that they exhibit some less-than-stellar tendencies themselves.

Below, CarterMatt has the official Prodigal Son episode 3 synopsis with some more news on what’s coming up next:

Malcolm gets his dream interview opportunity when the NYPD zeroes in on one of his and Martin’s favorite psychologists, Dr. Elaine Brown (guest star Sakina Jaffrey), who may be involved in a homicide linked to an LSD-laced psychology trial. Meanwhile, as his night terrors continue to evolve, Malcolm checks in with his trusted childhood therapist to discuss new theories on what exactly he witnessed as a child, and the consequences of Malcolm’s visits with The Surgeon begin to add up when Gil, Jessica and Ainsley catch wind that he has been seeing his father again in the all-new “Fear Response” episode of PRODIGAL SON airing Monday, Oct. 7 (9:01-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (PR-103) (TV-14 D, S, L, V)

We would say that one of the most important goals that Prodigal Son can achieve as a series at this point is widening the window a little bit into some of the other characters and giving us more of a sense of where they stand and who they are. The backbone with Malcolm is so strong that they may be able to establish more emotional stakes around him. There’s a great cast here overall, and with that, you have reasons aplenty for optimism.
