The former love interest we’re referring to just so happens to be a doctor, and as you see her in the promo below, it is very much evident that there are some feelings still bubbling underneath the surface here. It remains to be seen if it turns out to be a long-term story, but clearly, there are some elements to this storyline that are being brought up at this point for a reason.
Story-wise, perhaps the most important thing about The Rookie is that storytelling-wise, the show is actually not a rookie anymore. There is more of a clear sense now of what works and what doesn’t and because of that, it allows the creative team more opportunities to dive into specifics and navigate the ins and outs of these characters. They don’t have to deal with any basic introductions at this point.
