Why is Michael Rosenbaum not appearing in Crisis On Infinite Earths?
So why not Michael, who famously played that show’s version of Lex Luthor? As it turns out, he was asked, but he turned down the project for a myriad of reasons. In a new post on Twitter, he did his best to explain:
“Friends, many of you have tweeted and asked me about joining the [Crisis on Infinite Earths] crossover … I can’t tell you how much this means to me. I’ll just be straight up about this. WB called my agents Friday afternoon when I was in Florida visiting my grandfather in a nursing home. Their offer: No script. No idea what I’m doing. No idea when I’m shooting. Basically no money. And the real kick in the a–: ‘We have to know now.’ My simple answer was ‘Pass.’ I think you can understand why. I hope this answers all of your questions.”
Rosenbaum’s rationale here is simple enough: He would’ve liked to know more of what was going on more before agreeing to do it. Beyond that, he would’ve liked to have a better sense as to when he’d be working on it. Odds are, the role would’ve been fairly brief given the billion or so other people that are in it, and with there being so many people on a network like The CW, there probably isn’t that much money to go around.
So, alas, Rosenbaum will just be one of the few people who studio Warner Bros. TV couldn’t get for the event. It would’ve been great to see him, but it’s also understandable that an actor would want a little bit more awareness of the project before agreeing to sign up to do it. For now, there are still seven other excellent seasons of Smallville that you can go watch if you do want to get some sort of Rosenbaum fix.
