Disenchantment season 2 premiere date hopes on Netflix
The first thing worth noting here is, of course, that you’re going to be waiting for a good while. Netflix already made you wait a good year between the launch of the first and second half of season 1. This could be testament to the amount of time it takes to get an animated series off the ground; with that said, it may also just be due to Netflix’s desire to want to build increased demand for these episodes over time. If you leave people wanting more for a long stretch, that makes it a little bit easier for them to bite quickly when more episodes are released.
At least we already know that there are some more episodes coming; after all, Netflix already renewed Disenchantment for a 20-episode season 2, which could also be released within separate batches. There’s a lot of time for the streaming service to figure this out, but we like to think that they plot out some of their windows rather long in advance.
So what was the benefit of Netflix showing so much faith in Disenchantment, especially when you consider their recent tendency to cancel a number of other beloved shows? A lot of it comes back to who created the show behind the scenes — Matt Groening. Over the past couple of years, Netflix has gravitated heavily into the talent-acquisition business. That’s one of the reasons why people like Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy have now set up shop there. They want to do what they can in order to keep and cultivate their top talent, and keeping a show like this around is a way to show these producers that they have faith in some of their programming.
Unfortunately, we cannot say one way or another right now whether or not Disenchantment is a hit. Go ahead and blame the lack of consistent ratings information for that. Unless Netflix decides to actually release some good info, we’re flying blind trying to figure out how things fare with them under their vast umbrella of different shows.
