Crisis On Infinite Earths: Tom Welling will return as Clark Kent
According to Deadline, Welling was on The CW and executive producer Marc Guggenheim’s wishlist to come back in at least a variation of the role that he played for so many years on Smallville. He was beloved within this role for so many years, but Welling himself has been hesitant to step back into it since his Superman origin story ended. Yet, now it finally seems to be coming to pass. There’s no guarantee that he will be donning the Superman costume in the crossover event (which starts off later this year), but knowing that he will appear will be satisfying enough for some.
Here is some of what Guggenheim had to say after this wonderful news was made official:
“For eight years, Arrow has stood on the shoulders of Smallville. Simply put, there would be no Arrow, and no Arrowverse, without it … So when we first started talking about Crisis on Infinite Earths, our first, second and third priorities were getting Tom to reprise his iconic role as Clark Kent. To say that we’re thrilled would be a Superman-sized understatement.”
Tom will be joining Brandon Routh and also Tyler Hoechlin in playing variations of Superman or Clark Kent during the crossover. We already know that the event will feature guest appearances from other performers including Elizabeth Tulloch, John Wesley Shipp, Kevin Conroy, and many others. This is as big of a celebration of superheroes in TV and film as you’re going to find, and it may even become more epic in between now and when it airs.
We were already excited to see Crisis On Infinite Earths in action — now, we are officially over the moon. It’s going to be a fun December/early January when the five parts of this epic crossover event come on the air.
