Is Songland new tonight on NBC? What lies ahead
Let’s make it clear: We could’ve had about 20 more episodes of Songland this season and been really happy about it. This show was everything that we want in a summer TV program — it was inspiring, wonderfully creative, and we love how seriously the producers took it. Everyone seemed to understand that the winning song wasn’t just going to be discarded — it would have a chance at being a real hit and something that could sell millions of copies after the fact.
Now, let’s also make the bad news clear: We’re not going to be getting any more new episodes of Songland in the near future. There are no new episodes for the rest of the year — there’s no premiere date just yet for a season 2 but, for the time being, we remain hopeful that there are going to be more episodes in the summer.
Following the success of season 1, we remain more confident than ever before that there’s going to be another batch of great episodes. There are so many artists who will probably want to be a part of this after seeing it the first time around — even if they don’t get a hit song through the experience, they get a chance to have a whole new sense of creativity, passion, and spirit. There’s an energy with Songland that could propel all of these people forward in their music careers.
Hopefully, at some point early on in the new year, we’re going to get a chance to see some more news regarding Songland, including some of the participants — and, to go along with that, some of what they’re each going to be bringing to the table. This is a show that is, at its core, a fun celebration of music and the emotional spirit behind a song. We hope it stays that way and we’ll be here to cover it for every episode.
