Songland renewed by NBC for season 2 leading into season 1 finale

Songland

One day before its first season is set to wrap up, NBC has made the decision that they should’ve made weeks ago: Songland is absolutely a show worth keeping around for another season.

The renewal of the series comes after the show drew some rave reviews for a number of different reasons. For starters, Songland found a way to actually reinvigorate the music-show genre in a way that we haven’t seen in a while. Rather than this just being about finding the next great singer, it’s all about just finding the next great song and giving songwriters more exposure for their work. It teaches you about the creative process, collaboration, and giving yourself an audition that sets you up for the rest of your career. It’s one of the few reality shows out there were contestants can come on and not be concerned that they are going to be edited to look bad; it actually facilitates careers rather than hurting them.

We also think that moving into Songland season 2, the interest among prospective songwriters is going to be larger than ever before. For the first season, we would understand there being some nervousness among some artists to enter, not knowing what the show is and if it would make them look like a joke. Now, there can be positive word of mouth from other songwriters who has appeared. It feels like everyone who comes on the show leaves it feeling like it was a great opportunity — even if their songs weren’t chosen by the artists.

Songland has also proved its viability already, as a number of the songs featured on the show have gone on to be viewed millions of times across various social-media channels. That’s without noting the song featured in Hobbs and Shaw or the Old Dominion Jeep commercial, which should have a significant amount of play over the coming months.

Songland has been added to our Renewal/Cancellation Guide with the good news confirmed.
