Chicago Med season 5 premiere spoilers: ‘Never Going Back to Normal’

Come Wednesday, September 25 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time, prepare for the Chicago Med season 5 premiere — and also prepare for an episode with a lot of big, emotional swings. This is an installment entitled “Never Going Back to Normal” and you better believe that you’ll be trying to catch your breath the whole time. Think about it this way — Natalie’s life is on the line, Connor and Ava are going to be leaving the show, and Dr. Charles isn’t even going to have a whole lot of time to enjoy his honeymoon!

Consider this episode both the ending of one chapter of the show and also the beginning of a new one. We’re not sure that Chicago Med has ever been normal, so perhaps a good alternate title is “Never Going to Be the Same Again.” Regardless of what you want to call it, the Chicago Med season 5 premiere synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below has more details:

09/25/2019 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : In the season five premiere, Will and Natalie face the aftermath of a horrific car incident and are left to battle for their lives. An investigation is launched following the suspicious death of the elder Cornelius Rhodes, Dr. Rhodes’ father. Maggie receives life changing news. Dr. Charles cuts his honeymoon short to tend to a young patient he suspects might have schizophrenia.

The story for Natalie is the one within the premiere that easily has the most long-term ramifications. How could it not? Some of the news that is out there already suggests that Torrey DeVitto’s character may have a traumatic brain injury. Which may mean on the other side of it that we’re going to be seeing her battle the consequences of that for a good chunk of the rest of this season. The storylines for Connor and Ava are going to be the ones with more importance in the moment perhaps — provided of course that Natalie survives. Colin Donnell and Norma Kuhling are leaving the show, so the writers have to find a way in order to tell their farewells in compelling fashion. Also, the exits have to make sense. Sarah Reese’s departure felt fairly sudden at the start of this past premiere, but it did make a certain amount of story sense.
