A Discovery of Witches season 2 casts Outlander, The Following actors

What’s going to be coming up on A Discovery of Witches season 2? The British hit (which airs on AMC here in the United States) is currently underway with its latest batch of episodes — which, judging from the filming timeline, will premiere in 2020.

If you’re unfamiliar with the series, it’s an adaptation of the Deborah Harkness All Souls trilogy, one where humans, vampires, witches, and daemons all live together. The twist? Humans aren’t entirely aware of it. Season 2 will feature Matthew (Matthew Goode) and Diana (Teresa Palmer) at least in part in Elizabethan London, where the two are “hiding in time from the Congregation.” (That is via the official Sky press release. This is a show that combines mysticism, action, and of course a whole lot of other drama. You can see the first photo of the new season above, and we’ve got some casting news within!

Sky announced this week that The Following / Hap and Leonard alum James Purefoy, Outlander actor Steven Cree, Doctor Who actress Sheila Hancock, and also Vincent and Theo’s Paul Rhys are on board. Check out some information on their parts within:

Cree stars as Gallowglass De Clermont, a vampire and soldier of fortune who is particularly fond of his uncle, Matthew. James Purefoy plays the role of Philippe De Clermont, founder of the Congregation, commander of the Knights of Lazarus, mate of Ysabeau, and stepfather to Matthew. Paul Rhys is Andrew Hubbard, the vampire ruler of all creatures in London in 1590 and Sheila Hancock appears as elder witch Goody Alsop.

What does this mean in terms of Cree’s future on Outlander? That’s something that we’ll have to take a wait-and-see approach on. The situation with many actors who are not series regulars on the Starz drama is quite simple — they appear when they can, but they have other jobs and schedules. This is the reason why Laura Donnelly was unable to appear in season 4, and also one of the reasons why she may not be able to appear all that much in the future. (She is a part of an upcoming HBO series in The Nevers.)

Let’s just hope that some of these castings help to bring more attention to the series in the States, given that as of right now, it’s still very much under the radar.
