Chicago Fire season 8 spoilers: How Alberto Rosende enters the world

Chicago Fire

One of the big announcements that’s come out over the past few weeks is the news that Alberto Rosende is coming on board Chicago Fire season 8. He’s got a devoted following already thanks to Shadowhunters, and within the world of this show he’ll be taking on a very different sort of role.

So who is he? Think in terms of a firefighter (of course), and one that is going to be sought out by Severide, Casey, and Herrmann after the Fire Department expands the total number of people who can be on apparatus. (We take that, hopefully, to mean that he is not replacing anyone else.) Speaking via TVLine, executive producer Derek Haas has the following about the role, and about the decision the aforementioned guys make when it comes to potentially bringing him on board:

“He’s a very energetic, high-risk firefighter they see from another company, and the three of them [have to] decide, ‘Would this guy be a good fit at 51?’ Especially in the face of what we [see] in the first episode, that’s going to be a question.”

At this point, we’re always comfortable with Firehouse 51 looking for new recruits — after all, isn’t this perfectly indicative of something that real-life firefighters would do when they have an option of getting someone from another house? Also, it’s a part of the job that things would be fairly fluid within the firehouse — you’ve always got some lifers, but then also people who flutter in and out over time. That’s why it makes sense that the show has new characters here and there, though it is very much hard to say goodbye to a lot of the old ones and we miss some of them. (We write this as someone unsure that they’re fully over what happened to Shay, and that was years ago.)
