Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions: Alexa Lauenburger’s Golden Buzzer!
Tonight’s Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions episode on ITV delivered all sorts of exceptional stuff, including what may be the greatest dog-act performance we’ve ever seen. We don’t say that lightly, as someone who has watched a ton of performers in this category over the years. Let’s introduce you, though, to Alexa Lauenburger of Germany and her crew of canines.
What makes Alexa so special is that despite not even being a teenager yet, she has a tremendous command of several dogs, all at the same time! We’ve seen acts with a ton of dogs before — think the Olate Dogs over on America’s Got Talent — but sometimes, they can get chaotic. There was fun here with all of the dogs, but also control. We saw things during this act that we never have before! Think along the lines of a dog conga line at one point, in addition to the dogs basically being a canine version of a jump rope for other dogs to jump through. There were some classic hoop tricks as well, and everything felt slick, professional, and also still fun. The dogs appeared to enjoy themselves and, at least to us, that’s as important as anything.
The judges were clearly blown away by some of what Alex brought to the table tonight, but it was not them who ended up giving her a Golden Buzzer. Instead, it was hosts Ant and Dec who decided to do it. Granted, they were the only ones who were able to press it — because of the somewhat (bizarre) format of this show, nobody else could push it.
Following Alexa getting the Golden Buzzer, there was one more act who would end up advancing to the next round at the end of the episode. The second act advancing over the course of the night was MerseyGirls, who managed to make it through despite an incredible performance from former America’s Got Talent winner Paul Zerdin, a guy who performed arguably his best number that we’ve seen him do in a REALLY long time.
