NCIS season 17 episode 1 promo: New Cote de Pablo – Ziva footage!
As you would expect, there is a lot of great stuff to unpack in just 30 seconds, and it starts with Ziva naming a specific woman who wants her dead — this is who she’s running from. To go along with that, she also warns Gibbs that she is now after him, too. They have to work together in order to stop her, and to eventually, get Ziva back to what she wants and cherishes the most. There is a mention of Ziva’s daughter Tali, and also how she is out there, waiting for her mother to return to her. That is a driving force for Ziva in order to make it through some of the obstacles that are standing in her way since her daughter’s safety is number one.

There are some cool sequences that you see within the promo, whether it be Gibbs and Ziva running together through some tunnels, an action sequences in the streets, or Gibbs making it clear that he’s not leaving Ziva, no matter what. It’s a reminder of the relationship that the two have and that’s nice to see, especially when you think about how long it’s been since they’ve been around each other. They had the brief scene at the end of season 16 and that was it. Before that, Ziva’s been presumed dead since “Family First” — the final episode for Michael Weatherly as a series regular.
Note that this episode is one of a few for Cote moving into the new season — there could be four appearances for her this season, with two coming this fall! This is a chance to get to know the new iteration of Ziva and this is a chance to also tell a story that spans a good bit of time. We certainly don’t want everything crammed into the premiere! While this may be sad for Ziva in that she may not be free of this threat immediately, it’s great for us as viewers to be able to explore this character and her story in such a big way again. It could also reinvigorate NCIS as a series, given how Ziva’s been shown to bring more viewers to the show as a whole. That being said, season 16 of the show was really good all the way through with some of our favorite episodes like “Once Upon a Tim”.
